"The Devil embodies some of our deepest darkest human desires. At its core, it challenges us to look beyond ourselves, to face down our darkest demons and tear down our limitations.
In redesigning the card, I attempt to disrupt the notions of power and gender, to invoke a playful idea of pleasure. The central figures celebrate the theme of bondage and ideas of play. The use of anthropomorphic figures challenges dominant notions of gender as a representation of sexuality. Reimagined, The Devil personifies the thirst for self indulgence, the physical senses and sensual delights."
UPRIGHT: Desire, Materialism, Bondage, Sexuality, Temptation
REVERSE: Freedom, Detachment, Reclaiming power
